Decorating the home is a big job, not only that but an important one. We usually have a very specific idea of how we’d like our living spaces to look, whether its bright and bold or cosy and quirky it can sometimes be hard to find the perfect items to match our visions. Sometimes the only way to achieve this is by making the decorations ourselves, so here are a few ideas to help you achieve your own home sweet home.
Washi Tape Frames
Finding picture frames to fit your themes isn’t always as easy as it first seems, sure it’s simple enough to pick up a cheap one or an elegant one but here’s a really cool way to create a stylish frame without even having to bang a nail in the wall. Washi tape comes in all sorts of designs, from funky stripes to floral patterns, why not find the design that best suits you and use this to stick your pictures to the wall hassle free? You don’t just have to outline the shape of the picture either, really have a play around with the shapes, you’ll have some cute and stylish frames set up in no time at all.
Moroccan Inspired Lanterns
If you’re looking for an exotic way to light up the home or the garden without having to splash the cash then these Moroccan inspired lanterns will be perfect for you. All you need is an empty jar of your choosing, some gold puff paint and some glass paint. First up you’ll want to apply various patterns and solid layers of the puff paint to the outside of the jar, this will give the visage of an intricate gold casing, then once that has dried paint the inside of the glass with your chosen colour of glass paint (maybe you’ll want to try making a few different ones), finally once that has dried all you need to do is add a candle and hey presto, a lantern fit for use. If you want to go a step further you can add loops of fine-gauge wire to the tops of the lanterns so that you can hang them up, this is great for the garden.
Personalised Door Mat
Tired of the drab brown design of your everyday door mat? We are too! Rather than spending way too much on a Union Jack themed door mat why not get some paint out and jazz up that classic standard design yourself? All you need is some white paint, a roller and a can of spray paint in whatever colour you desire. Simply apply a base layer of the white paint with the roller, then once it has dried go over it with the spray paint.
If you want to further add your own style to it why not make some stencils before you add the spray paint? Maybe create some letters for a message of your choice? Or your favourite superhero logo perhaps? Have fun with it!
