It’s that time of year again, the days are getting shorter, the nights air getting long and the are is growing ever brisker. It can be easy to succumb to the winter blues until you remember one thing, the festive season is just around the corner. Nothing lifts the spirits like decorating the house with all the things that fill you with the holiday spirits but the cost can soon build up. If you find that this is the case then perhaps, you’d be better making your own decorations, here are a few ideas to get you started with your own craft Christmas.
Why not decorate your tree with a series of cross-stitch ornaments? They’re simple and easy to make and there a whole host of patterns out there for you to choose from. Whether it’s a holly leaf, a tree decoration, a star or candy cane there are plenty of images that will make your tree feel as festive as possible. It’s also a great activity to do with the kids too, they’ll love making their own.
We always think to decorate our windows and walls but never really our furniture, and why shouldn’t we? It’s such a huge part of the house that it would be a shame to not at least have something festive of our sofas. Cushions are an excellent accent for bed and sofa so why not make them seasonal, simply get some in a festive colour (red, green, white, etc) and tie a wrapping bow around them, making them look just like presents. So simple yet so very effective.
If it’s small touches you’re looking for then this is a really cute way to decorate with very little cost at all. All you need are salt and pepper shakers that are no more than half filled with salt (or sugar if you’re low), simply put in some toy evergreens and maybe deer or other festive themed miniatures and you have yourself some micro winter wonderlands that you can decorate your kitchen and dining room with.
Most of us Christmas lovers will most likely already how our knitted Christmas jumpers to hand but when it comes festive clothing odds are most of us will draw the line there, well now you don’t have to. If you like this idea why stop there, you can do this with pretty much any item of clothing; t-shirts, socks, hats, or a great one to do is shoes, get some cheap white pumps and they’ll be perfect for jazzing up.
